My Mepilex Story

I remember when the Mepilex family of dressings first appeared on our burns unit!

We had nothing like this before and it quickly became a firm favourite for our inpatients’, outpatients’ and outreach patients’ wound care! Mepilex is a soft, spongy dressing that is a joy to handle, with superior contouring around joints and difficult-to-dress areas, with a tacky (Safetac) underside allowing hands-free dressing application, and with pliability unhindered by absorbency. Function and mobility are essential during burn survivor’s wound healing stage, and Mepilex dressings perfectly meet the requirements for reducing trauma on application, during wear and upon removal, are easily adaptable to any required form and shape, do not restrict patient’s function when mobilised, and provide cushioning and protection.

For a patient, Mepilex is an uncomplicated dressing that they can apply independently at home, reducing the cost and time of additional outpatient clinic visits, allowing patients an active role in their own wound care, reducing anxiety and building patient’s confidence in interacting with their wound with minimal pain or trauma.
